A Gem Hidden In The Concrete

Hidden among the tall condo buildings in the concrete jungle of Atlanta, Georgia, lays an American Brassier known as the Sugar Factory, a place where your dessert dreams come true. The Atlanta location is one of many franchises around the world. This American brasserie specializes in presenting dessert in a fun and artistic way. When you order a milkshake-like, the “Cookie Monster Makes a Wish,” You get more than just shaken and blended ice-cream in a cup; you receive a cookie dough milkshake decorated with cookies, chocolate, and a donut on the outside and delicious creamy milkshake on the inside. The popular restaurant also has an excellent selection of brunch, lunch, and dinner to complement the raving dessert menu. Also, they make dessert infused cocktails that you can order with or without alcohol.

Why we went

Enough with the description, let me speak of my experience and why I chose to have a meal at the Sugar Factory. My wife, Tamara, discovered a Sugar Factory had been opened in Atlanta and set her mind on going for her birthday in February 2020. After being open for a couple of months, we began to read reviews about the restaurant; they were horrible. People wrote about lousy service, dirty restaurant, not good food, long wait times. Keep in mind no other Sugar Factory franchisees were receiving reviews of this nature. That turned me off immediately, but Tamara was still determined to try it. So, she reserved a table for seven at 11 a.m. February 8, 2020, and we, with some of her family, made the trip to the not so highly regarded Sugar Factory.

The Service

At first sight, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was amicable. Our party was seated on time, and we all started to look over the menu and gaze at the spectacular scenery. The server was very polite, and her name was Jayla. She was attentive, never kept us waiting, and answered our questions eloquently. So, the service was excellent; no one in our group had a complaint. The only wait time to be aware of is for your desserts. The artistic nature of the sweet art takes time to put together, which is why it’s a good idea to order your dessert with your entrée. A last note on what service to expect is that they only give one check per table. To combat this, our group all brought cash to make the payment process quick and painless. Also, it’s a great experience, but the desserts and food are expensive. My wife and I did do the responsible adult thing and set aside money every paycheck so we didn’t have to worry about what we ordered and could take in the experience.

The food

I will start with the boring order “mine,” since it was brunch, I ordered a traditional scrambled egg breakfast with toast, bacon, and hash-browns. I did spice it up a bit and added cheese to the eggs. The eggs were cooked well and had great flavor. The hash-browns were crispy and had the right amount of seasoning. Both the toast and bacon cooked to the perfect crisp. For dessert, I ordered a classic ice cream sundae for two; it was really for four. It contained three large scoops of ice cream chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. On top lay a layer of sprinkles companies with drizzled chocolate and caramel syrup and some gummies. It looked great, and it tasted great! But not being someone who has a big sweet tooth, the classic dessert was too much for me to handle and I could not finish it.

My wife has more of a sweet tooth than I do, so she had a few more things than I did. First, she had a Passion Fruit Punch Goblet. Jayla came out with the Goblet, she set the drink down empty, there was dry-ice in it, and then proceeded to pour the punch over the dry-ice. The reaction caused the fog to rise out of the glass. What a beautiful effect to a delicious drink. Second, Her Entrée was a turkey club sandwich that she enjoyed; it was nothing fancy. Third, with her entrée, she ordered a cotton candy cosmopolitan. The drink was a stunning red-orange color, with cotton candy on a stick poking out, and a gummy shark swimming around the glass. Neither the Alcohol nor the fruit juice overpowered each other it was a perfect cocktail.

Conclusion

The Sugar Factory rose above my expectations, which I was glad. Expecting a lousy experience and getting one is never fun. The service was excellent, the food delicious, and décor beautiful. It is truly a gem hiding among the condos on Midtown, Atlanta. I will defiantly be back in the future!
